IELTS Writing – Version 01

Introduction

Many people consider skydiving and rock climbing to be dangerous sports. As a result, some propose that these activities should be completely banned. However, I believe that banning such sports is not a good idea. Doing so could lead to illegal activities and impose high costs on the government.

Implementation

Dangerous sports can be expensive. Participants often need to travel to specific locations and purchase costly equipment. Additionally, extensive paperwork is required before someone can start these activities. For instance, both skydiving and rock climbing require access to certain land or aircraft. If the government decides to ban these sports, enforcing this ban would require significant resources. Law enforcement would need to allocate manpower to monitor activities, which is challenging. It is difficult to supervise all areas where people might engage in these sports, particularly in skydiving, as monitoring aircraft is not easy. Therefore, a total ban would likely be ineffective.

Consequences

Even if a ban is implemented, it is human nature to break laws that people perceive as unreasonable. Skydiving and rock climbing are sports that have not been banned due to their nature and appeal. If these activities were prohibited, some individuals might continue to engage in them illegally, putting their lives at risk. Banning these sports would also require prohibiting the sale of safety equipment. Without access to proper gear, participants would have to rely on makeshift items, which would further endanger their lives.

Example

For example, in rock climbing, high-quality hooks and ropes are essential for safety. If a ban were enforced, people might resort to using substandard equipment, increasing the risk of accidents. The same applies to skydiving; without proper parachutes and oxygen supplies, participants would be in danger. Furthermore, individuals might choose to practice these sports in more hazardous locations since they are not allowed to do so in safer areas, creating a more dangerous situation.

Conclusion

In conclusion, while skydiving and rock climbing are indeed risky sports with potential dangers, banning them is not the solution. Enforcing such a ban would require substantial resources from government agencies, and people are likely to break the rules. This could lead to greater risks as individuals turn to poor-quality equipment. Therefore, it is better to allow these sports to continue, with proper safety measures in place.
