IELTS Writing – Version 01

Introduction

Due to the adrenaline rush associated with extreme sports, especially the more dangerous variants, many people find a sense of achievement and excitement in these activities. As a result, a significant number of individuals become hooked on such sports. To mitigate the dangers involved in these activities, proper acclimatization, training, and the use of heavy-duty equipment are essential.

Why do people take part in dangerous sports?

Most people who engage in extreme sports have already maximized their opportunities to participate in regular sports. It is often observed that those who are drawn to these risky activities began seeking thrills at a young age. As they try various exciting activities, they may eventually find them insufficiently stimulating. This leads them to undertake extremely dangerous tasks, such as surfing in perilous waters, deep-sea diving, or skydiving. For these individuals, the ability to feel alive is closely linked to the intensity of their experiences, including sports. When they participate in more conventional sports like basketball, they often find it mundane and boring. Consequently, they gravitate toward more exhilarating pursuits.

Acclimatize

To reduce the risks associated with extreme sports, individuals must ensure they acclimatize to the conditions. A perfect example is mountaineering, particularly on mountains like Everest. One cannot simply ascend to the summit without proper preparation. The temperature and oxygen levels are challenging, so climbers must gradually acclimatize their bodies to these conditions, which helps lessen the dangers.

Training

Rigorous training is another crucial aspect, especially for activities like deep-sea diving. Participants need to improve their ability to hold their breath and understand their physical limitations. Many individuals become so accustomed to extended breath-holding that they risk their bodies shutting down unexpectedly. Thus, training to recognize when to resurface is vital for safety.

Equipment

Lastly, investing in high-quality equipment is essential, even though it can be expensive. Using appropriate gear significantly reduces the chances of accidents. This is especially common among rock climbers, who often spend thousands of dollars on safety equipment.

Conclusion

In conclusion, due to their mundane lifestyles, many people are drawn to dangerous sports to feel alive. To ensure their safety while engaging in these activities, it is crucial for them to train their bodies to adapt to different conditions and invest in proper tools and equipment.
