IELTS Writing – Version 01

Introduction

Family is the basic unit of a community, and eating together as a family is considered an important part of any society, and even the nation. I completely agree with this notion because it is through family meals that people learn to be social, starting with their family and extending to the community around them.

Family

As humans, we are social beings, much like other mammals that thrive in groups. Sharing a meal together is a sign of a strong foundation, especially within the family. The significance of this practice extends beyond the family to the community and the country as a whole. Families that maintain this habit tend to have stronger connections among their members. These individuals often follow certain societal norms. During family meals, children are given food that is shared among siblings or with other family members. This is also the time when they discuss their day and learn how to communicate with different people, from authority figures to peers. This practice helps them understand how to interact with others as they grow older.

Outside

As they mature, children begin to engage with a variety of people, and the lessons learned at the dining table help them express themselves confidently in front of others, whether older or among their peers. This socialization is crucial. On the other hand, people who do not experience this kind of family interaction, especially during meals, often become socially awkward. We see this in individuals who ate alone as children and tend to isolate themselves as they grow older. They are not accustomed to the tradition of shared meals, which can lead to a sense of detachment from the community.

Nation

In today’s economic struggles, many people work longer hours, leading to different family members having varying schedules. In dual-income families, it may be difficult to find time to have dinner together. This disconnection can cause family bonds to weaken, as parents and children miss the opportunity to communicate regularly. This breakdown in communication can lead to bigger problems on a national scale. In highly economically driven countries, we have seen that when families do not eat together, communities become fragmented. People often eat at their desks while working, breaking away from the traditional family concept. This shows the critical importance of the simple act of sharing a meal with family.

Conclusion

In conclusion, while it might seem like a mundane task, sharing a meal as a family is a very important social activity. It helps people improve their social skills and lays the foundation for a strong community, ultimately leading to a better society and a stronger nation.
