Insight

This is another interesting prompt because it requires knowledge of the current economy. This is why using templates isn’t always effective. Sometimes, you need to demonstrate your understanding of the world around you. Relying heavily on templates doesn’t work well, especially if you’re aiming for a Band 7 or higher in the IELTS.

Here’s my version:

IELTS Writing – Version 01

Introduction

Some believe that having a single career is outdated in today’s society. This traditional mindset is now considered old-fashioned. I agree with this view, as the current trend is to pursue multiple careers, which allows individuals to diversify their income sources and advance their education throughout their lives.

Single Career Old Fashioned

In the past, earning a bachelor’s degree often led to a stable job with a clear path to financial success. People would rely on this job for their entire career, with pension benefits supporting them in retirement until they passed away. However, this is no longer the norm. Nowadays, having a bachelor’s degree does not guarantee the same level of success as it did a century ago. Companies are now cutting costs and cannot always offer pensions. To stay competitive, businesses prefer hiring younger employees who are more energetic and productive.

Multiple Source of Income

As a result, having multiple careers has become common. Individuals with a bachelor’s degree may pursue advanced degrees like a master’s or PhD, or they might study new fields to gain additional skills. Many people also explore other career opportunities or start their own businesses. In the United States, it is common for people to have multiple streams of income, including side jobs, investments, and entrepreneurial ventures. This diversification helps them cope with economic challenges and improves their financial stability.

Example

For example, in the U.S., a person might work as a doctor while also being a real estate agent or running a software-as-a-service (SaaS) business part-time. They might invest in real estate, apartment buildings, or the stock market, receiving dividends and growing their wealth over time. The abundance of information available on the internet has made it easier for people to continuously learn and adapt to new opportunities.

Conclusion

In conclusion, due to economic demands, a single career is no longer considered the norm and is seen as outdated. People now pursue multiple careers and income opportunities, continually improving their skills and education throughout their lives.
