IELTS Writing – Financial Support for Old People – 社会 (V1)

Some people argue that the government should assume the financial responsibility of caring for the elderly, given their contributions to the country. Others contend that individuals should save for their future, relying on their accumulated wealth during their later stages of life. In my view, while the government should play a role through social security, individuals should also take responsibility for their financial well-being.

Government-provided financial support for the elderly is derived from taxpayers’ money, and many believe it is an obligation owed to those who contributed through their work and taxes in previous generations. It is seen as a commitment the government must fulfill to maintain the functioning of society. However, those advocating for self-independence argue against burdening the government excessively. They express concerns that diverting funds to support the elderly could hinder investments in the future generation, potentially impacting the overall financial health of the country.

In my opinion, a balanced approach is needed. The government should establish a system requiring current employees and young professionals to contribute a percentage of their income. Half of the collected funds could be allocated to finance retirement benefits for the elderly, while the remaining portion should be invested strategically to generate additional wealth. This approach ensures a more sustainable cycle, where individuals invest in their future while still receiving support from the government.

In conclusion, the debate over whether the government or individuals should bear the responsibility for retirement benefits persists. I believe a middle-ground solution, where both parties contribute, is more prudent. Establishing a system that encourages personal investment alongside government support creates a more sustainable and equitable approach to retirement planning.

IELTS Writing – Financial Support for Old People – 社会 (V2)

Some argue that the government should take up the financial duty of looking after the elderly, considering their past contributions to the nation. On the flip side, there are those who insist that people should stash away funds for their later years, relying on their accumulated wealth. In my view, although the government should have a role via social security, individuals should also step up and handle their financial well-being.

Financial assistance for seniors provided by the government comes from the pockets of taxpayers, with many viewing it as a debt owed to those who put in their work and taxes in the past. It’s seen as an obligation the government needs to fulfill to keep society ticking. However, proponents of self-reliance argue against burdening the government excessively. They worry that channeling funds to support the elderly might hamper investments in the next generation, potentially affecting the overall financial health of the country.

From my prespective, a balanced approach is the way to go. The government could set up a system where current employees and young professionals chip in a percentage of their income. Half of the collected funds could be earmarked to cover retirement benefits for the elderly, while the rest should be strategically invested to generate more wealth. This approach ensures a more sustainable cycle, where individuals invest in their future while still getting some support from the government.

In summary, the ongoing debate about whether the government or individuals should shoulder the responsibility for retirement benefits continues. I’m of the opinion that a middle-of-the-road solution, with both parties contributing, makes more sense. Establishing a system that promotes personal investment alongside government support creates a more sustainable and fair approach to retirement planning.

IELTS Writing – Financial Support for Old People – 社会 (After thoughts)

I am presenting Task 2 for this website, aiming to provide different perspectives and ensure a diverse range of opinions. Candidates commonly err by including their opinion solely in the introduction, which is technically incorrect. The introduction should encompass the general idea, a background statement, and a thesis. Placing your opinion there makes it resemble more of a thesis statement. The ideal structure involves five paragraphs, dedicating the fourth or fifth paragraph to expressing your opinion with greater clarity. Another common mistake is insufficient justification for viewpoints. It’s crucial to elaborate on why people hold a particular perspective and why others have a different view. Occasionally, your opinion may align with one of the presented views. However, I recommend ensuring it stands out, providing more opportunities for explanation. This way, your response doesn’t appear restricted in terms of ideas and showcases a broader perspective.
